Trustee Will Linsdell introduces us to the work of the RSPCA shop here in Crystal Palace.
The RSPCA South London Branch is responsible for animal welfare in our large area. We are there for both domestic animals and wildlife, assisting in all aspects of animal care.
A vital source of funds for our work are our three shops in Caterham, Croydon and of course Crystal Palace.
Based at 14 Westow Street, we opened our shop in May 2017 after looking for a location on the Crystal Palace Triangle for a while. We were thrilled when we finally found this lovely little shop, with gorgeous double front bay windows.
The shop was immediately refurbished and a small sorting room was put in at the back. We love the exposed brickwork and used that as inspiration for the industrial theme of the shop fit out.
We’re in a great location and get lots of passing trade, as well as visits from our lovely
regular customers. We’re very lucky that despite the parking not being easy, we still get lots
of generous people dropping off much-needed donations.
Womenswear and bric-a-brac are our best sellers, with many well-known brands featuring
regularly. Donations are always needed and gratefully received during our opening times of
Monday-Saturday 9.30-5.50pm and on Sundays from 11-5.
We would really love to see you in the shop. Our wonderful staff and volunteers are sure to
give you a very warm welcome.
Meet some of our staff and volunteers
Hi, my name is Renae and I’m the shop manager here at Crystal Palace.
My best day on the job was when a young girl did a sponsored fun run and raised £444.50 for the RSPCA. She chose to donate it to our shop because she had received great customer service from us and loves animals. It was a really touching moment.
Hi, my name is Dee and I have been volunteering with the RSPCA for almost 5 years. I love
animals and I love working at the Crystal Palace shop.
Hi, my name is John. I’ve been volunteering here at the RSPCA Crystal Palace shop for 4 years. I started off sorting and tidying the basement as I lacked the confidence to be out on
the shop floor. But now I get involved with all aspects of the shop and have recently been trained up on the till.
I love animals and making new friends here.
Hi, my name is Vi, I’ve been volunteering here for 4 years and I do all the sorting and preparing items for the shop floor.
Without our brilliant staff and volunteers we could not exist, so we would also like to thank them for all their hard work and dedication. We would also love to hear from local people
who might be interested in volunteering for us, either in our shops (we have shops in Croydon & Caterham too) or at our fundraising events.
Additionally, we have several ways that local businesses could work with us to help you fulfil
your social responsibility goals and make a real difference to animals in the area.
Please visit our website or send us an e-mail at office@rspcasouthlondon.org.uk for more details.
You can also follow us on social media, details are on our website.
