Croydon Business Awards 2022 - the results!
Shop SE19 was absolutely delighted to receive Highly Commended in our category which was Contribution to The Community.
The fact that we weren't ready to go with a up-to-the-minute blog post and slick press release, just shows that awards announcements can indeed be a genuine surprise. ShopSE19 was a first-time nominee and finalist this year in the Croydon Business Awards alongside fellow Crystal Palace businesses Craft & Courage (Business Resilience), Haven Wellness (New Business) and ClearCommunityWeb (social enterprise).

We all gathered at Legacy Youth Zone on 9th November, with hundreds of guests from the Croydon business community to hear the results at a celebratory dinner and party, compered by Fayon Dixon.
The finalists in our category were made up of a broad field of Croydon businesses and membership organisations, many of whom make a difference by giving to charity or lending their workforce for community days and other activities.
Our nomination was a bit different, because we are a bit different. We're here to spread the word about local high streets and support the businesses who are on the frontline day-in-day-out. Right now, times are very challenging. This is layered upon three years of challenging times. Staff and businesses are coping with a huge increase in expenses, genuine dilemmas about how to increase prices to meet these forces, without upsetting or losing customers and making make or break decisions.
We champion the Crystal Palace high streets, but what many people don't see is what goes on behind the scenes, to promote the area, support our businesses, liaise with community groups while encouraging the strong spirit of local independence that makes SE19 so special.
We've built a solid network of peer support for our local high streets to support one another. Whether it's the ability to advise businesses on trustworthy and reliable local tradespeople, helping to raise the profile of police and security issues and other day to day concerns like wellbeing in the workplace, security for female owned and run businesses, informal mentoring and sharing of local wisdom between new and more experienced businesses.
ShopSE19 grew and changed during the pandemic and we are stronger and more effective for it. Our goal is for high street businesses to feel more confident, less isolated and work together to promote our local business community and encourage residents and visitors to support us with their valuable custom.
Thank you for voting for ShopSE19 and thank you for continuing to support us and to keep our local high streets vibrant and alive. A big thank you to the extended team who makes things happen. We're excited about the weeks ahead. Christmas is always a very important and exciting time in Crystal Palace.
*Congratulations to Saadia from Haven Wellness who won in her category (best new business) - which is surely due a blog post of its own very soon...
We'd absolutely encourage Crystal Palace businesses on and off the high street to enter next year and enjoy the experience of being a nominee and finalist.
