The next phase of reopening is here. Saturday 4 July sees the reopening of some of our local pubs and hair salons after almost four months of closure.

Business remains unusual for a while, but local teams are working hard to create a safe and welcoming environment for our community. Here's a taste of what you can expect in new norm SE19.

Thank you to the local businesses who took time out in what must be a very busy week of preparations to give a preview of their upcoming opening plans, with added safety features.

Starting on corner of Westow Hill and the Parade it’s a welcome return to Westow House who have completed their risk assessment and checks to re-open on 4th July and have told us:

“Our approach will have safety at foremost of our minds whilst also giving patrons a warm, welcoming environment. Sanitising stations and full table service available. Contactless payments & a 'take part' attitude towards social distancing would help greatly.”

There’s space for 160 indoors and out. Some tables are pre-bookable with some space reserved for on-the-day walk-ins. Visit the website to book and find out more

At the other end of Westow Hill, during lockdown, the Sparrowhawk has diversified into groceries/deli, take-away food and drink. They will re-open their indoor rooms after a deep clean. Here’s a preview of the new Sparrowhawk normal.

“Customers are requested to sanitise their hands on arrival. We request they providing contact details for tracing purposes.

We now ask customers to please wait to be seated, order food & drinks from their table only, using an app.

We have ramped up cleaning. The pub has received a deep clean. Each table will be thoroughly sanitised after use. Our menus will be one-use only. All our staff have undergone new health and safety training. Our toilets will have a strict one in one out policy.”

Sunday’s Roasts to Go will continue along with Robin's Ready Meals (Wed to Sat) & Take Aways from the Deli.

Max capacity is 50. For more updates, follow @The Sparrowhawk Pub on Facebook and Instagram or drop them an email with queries: admin@thesparrowhawkpub.co.uk

Beauty salons must wait a little longer for the green light, but Saturday sees the opening of hair salons. Your Style Boutique on Westow Hill gave us their update on what customers can expect at appointments.

They can accept 3 customers in the salon at one time. There are queue markers outside, if you need to wait. Online booking in advance is essential.

Salon staff will be wearing face visors, with sanitisers used before and after every client, and regular temperature checks. Follow Your Style on Instagram for more information and updates.

We’ve been enjoying the tasty weekend burgers and Friday night dinners, but get booking, Joanna’s will be re-opening their doors and tables to customers on 17th July.

Having adapted their layout there will be space for 55 diners. The restaurant table plan has been adjusted to reduce capacity and ensure at least 1m between diners. The largest possible table will be 6 people.

Here’s a message from the team “We have assessed the risks to the team and guests and ask everyone to help us maintain a safe and friendly environment for all. Please reserve your table in advance whenever possible. We look forward to welcoming you soon.”

See website for details https://joannas.uk.com/ and Instagram for updates.

A few more brief updates from Westow Street venues:

Dalhousie makes an Independence Day come-back this Saturday. Take-away only to begin with. But the good news is that does include cake. Welcome back!

The Roasted Bean has been keeping us caffeinated and pastry-ed for a few weeks. They aren’t quite ready to open-up their indoor seating area, but will be happy to serve you takeaways.

After a refit, Mediterranea, is open once more and has completed its transformation from pizzeria to Italian bakery and deli counter. Fear not, their delicious pizzas are still available.

Mi Cocina Es Tuya, Venezuelan treats are back on the menu. Please pre-book if you’d like to dine inside. They have space for around 12 people. Please email on info@micocinaestuya.co.uk or follow on Instagram.
